Thibaut Sauviat

WAX SCULPTURE WORKSHOP BASED ON A LIVE MODEL

His artistic practice is primarily devoted to observational oil painting and modeling from live models.
Trained at the Ateliers de Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris and in numerous painting and sculpture studios, he has taught sculpture, modeling, and drawing at several schools in Paris and the Île-de-France region.

In his wax sculpture studio, Thibaut offers a modeling method akin to drawing.
The approach is simple: build up the forms from the inside out by analyzing the model’s silhouette at each stage, then marvel at the result—the forms are spot-on! This is the “profiles” method.
Anatomical knowledge is merely an added bonus that allows the artist to infuse intention into his work.
The material—wax—is less intuitive to use than clay but can sometimes be more playful and, above all, more practical; in particular, it allows you to take your work with you.

Thibaut is fluent in French, English, and Spanish, and has a basic knowledge of German.
