Exhibition: Modigliani and His Dealer (Musée de l'Orangerie)

Discover the exhibition “Amadeo Modigliani: A Painter and His Dealer” at the Musée de l’Orangerie...

Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920), an Italian sculptor and painter, spent the last part of his life in Montparnasse: he studied at the Académie Colarossi (now part of the Académie de la Grande Chaumière), shared a studio with Paul Gauguin at 8 Rue de la Grande Chaumière (a plaque can be seen on the façade), and sketched portraits of patrons at La Rotonde and Le Dôme in exchange for a few drinks during his difficult years.

The Musée de l'Orangerie immerses us in the world of one of the greatest painters of the 20th century, who became a legend in Montparnasse and was hosted by the Academy while he was creating his works.

The exhibition looks back at one of the defining moments in the artist’s life—when Paul Guillaume became his dealer—and explores how their relationship would shape the artist’s career.
